Top things to do in Florence

Florence was one of our most favourite cities that we got the chance to visit, if you want to endure a city full of art and culture, here is the place for you.

Florence Cathedral

We have seen many buildings across Europe, but nothing compares to this one, it's like something out of an animated Disney film, it captures your attention from afar, simply mesmerizing. The detail really draws you in, it almost doesn't look real, like a drawing. Obviously this building you cannot miss, as it's the central part to the city, but you must come and see the cathedral from up close.

Palazzo Vecchio

The second square we stumbled across was this one, covered in statues and the entrance to the town hall itself, however be prepared for long queues, so arrive early if you wish to enter here. One tip, do not touch the statue seen here in the above image, there are guards on watch...

Palazzo Pitti

In order to get the best view of the Palace, you should really visit the Boboli Gardens, but whatever angle you see the palace at, it's truly wonderful.

Piazza della Repubblica

There are several open squares within Florence, but this was one of our favourites, the life in this square just felt alive, from the merry-go-around to the music coming from the restaurants, it's a lovely atmosphere.

Ponte Vecchio - bridge

If you would like to see a different side to the city itself, just take a wander across this bridge, and the atmosphere is just wonderful, from market stalls to live music. Again, we preferred the bridge during the sunset hours, it was the perfect setting, very romantic.

Boboli gardens

If there is one thing we really enjoyed here, it was the Boboli Gardens, we hesitated at first at paying the small entrance fee, because how great can gardens really be. However on entrance to the garden we found ourselves getting more and more lost in these huge gardens, it just went on and on. Perfect place to take a picnic and spend your day wandering the stunning gardens, enjoy the walks, the water features and make your way up the hill and enjoy the view over the Palace whilst in the presence of the monument Tindaro Screpolato.

Laurentian Library

Not many people know about this hidden gem and believe us we were confused as to why our Airbnb hosts advised us to go here, but once we arrived we knew exactly why... Enjoy a view of the spire of the Piazza del Duomo as you sit within the peaceful Library, it's a lovely view and it'll give you a different angle of the building entirely that you cannot get from anywhere else in the city.

Piazzale Michelangelo

Or if you want an even more spectacular view across the entirety of Florence, climb to the top of the hill of Piazzale Michelangelo, the best time to go is in time for the sun to set. Trust us, you will not regret the steep walk to the very top, it is worth every second.
