Being one of Europe's most popular travel destinations, there is not doubt that there are hundreds of things to do in this city to keep you busy for a break away here. But we want to share with you some of our favourites, not just the generic ones that everyone knows about, we try and share with you some of our hidden favourites that we feel are MUST do's.

Fisherman's Bastion

Climb up to the Fisherman's Bastion, and enjoy a spectacular view of not only the Gothic stoned architecture, but you get a wonderful view over Pest from the Buda side of the River Danube. It's completely free and you get a lovely view, so we feel this is a must see attraction when you come to the beautiful city of Budapest.

Shoes on the River Danube

The shoes situated on the bank of the River Danube is a memorial in Budapest, Hungary. This memorial as placed there by a film director Can Togay, he did this to honor the many people who were killed in Budapest during World War II. They were ordered to take off their shoes, and were shot at the edge of this River bank so that their bodies fell into the river and were carried away by the current, this memorial represents their shoes left behind on the bank. If there is one thing that we came across during our travels across Europe, that truly touched us, this is one of them, such a moving memorial.

Parliament Building

The Parliament building is a completely different sight in the evening, in comparison with in the day, it highlights the entire strip of the River Danube in front of it and it's a stunning sight. Either find yourself touring inside the building or just admiring from the outside, either way you must come and witness this brightly lit building at night.

Heroes Square

Heroes square or otherwise known as the Hősök tere, it is one of the major squares in Budapest, symbolic to being an iconic statue featuring the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars and other national leaders, as well as the Tomb of the unknown soldier. This particular square is so well kept and situated next to the boating lake, don't miss out on this beautiful area in Budapest, it is very different to the main centre, so go and see a different side to this wonderful city.

Boating Lake

Next to the Heroes square, there is a lovely boating lake, where you can just enjoy the view from the bank on the side, enjoy a nice meal in one of the restaurants or you can get the first hand experience and hire out a pedalo. Either way this lake is stunning and this area of the city should not be missed out on, take your family on a day out just in this small area of Budapest and you will have a great time.

Chain Bridge

Chain Bridge, is a suspension bridge that links Buda and Pest over the River Danube, at night this bridge lights up the river, this was the first permanent stone bridge crossing over the river connecting either side of Budapest and the second permanent crossing overall. So this bridge is a historical artefact in this city, so go and witness some history!

Széchenyi Thermal Bath

The Széchenyi Thermal Bath is one of the most well known attractions in the city of Budapest and there are many reasons why, it really is a great place to go for a day or an entire weekend. Go during the daytime and enjoy spa treatments and a dip in one of the many thermal baths, indoor or outdoor. Or enjoy the bath at night time on most Saturday evenings and go to the spa party!
