Tours and Day Trips

Sometimes, you can't avoid going without a tour guide to a local attraction, but if you can avoid doing so, we highly recommend avoiding. Tour companies can often overcharge you and in all honesty a lot of companies will mug you off.

Travelling to an attraction without a tour guide: You can avoid the standard booking fees, handling fees and every other type of fee people charge these days. You can research yourself and find the cheapest method of travelling without the pressure of a travel agent forcing you into a more expensive route so that they can get their commission for the day. An example of this was when we visited Krka National Park. We found a tour that we thought sounded wonderful, allowing you to see the falls and a couple of other attractions along the way. However we decided to research into this before purchasing the tour, and we were very right to do so. It turns out that you only had an hour at the falls themselves, which was the main attraction, the remainder of the day was spent travelling. I don't know about you, but we love to get lost within the wilderness and explore together, without anyone holding us back or telling us where we can and cannot go. Instead we spent the entire day there, we got the first coach to the area and the last coach back, with a beautiful boat ride to the falls themselves. We wandered for hours on end, exploring all the many many walkways and we did not share a single regret on not purchasing the tour. Instead we saved our money and it then funded our current travels in Turkey. There are many different boards containing information regarding the history of the national park all across the island, all the information a tour guide would give you, if not more. You get to be free and explore at your own leisure, this is our preference anyway.

Unless it's a hop on and off kind of tour, where you can jump off the bus (not literally or whilst moving...) and explore at your own leisure this way, whilst gathering information from a professional on the bus, but again, this is nothing you cannot do yourself.

As I said, this is our personal preference and just another way in which to help you save your money and put it to better use!
