How to be cost effective?
Where to stay
It's entirely up to you how you wish to travel but we as a couple we found this the best way for us to get around.
After hours of researching the cheapest accommodation, we found Airbnb was the way forward. In places within central Europe in particular we were baffled by what you can get for your money. Many people travel and use hostels, which is perfect if you're a group of friends or solo and wanting to meet new people, but this wasn't the cheapest option for us. This is only a cheap method of living if you don't mind sharing a room with a large group of people. As we were planning on travelling for a long period of time, we wanted the personal space that Airbnb provided in order to have some quiet space for ourselves and to crack on with our work when necessary.
Airbnb can be anything from luxurious to average, depending on your budget. We obviously took the cheaper option in most places, in order to travel for longer. We had many types of accommodations, from entire places to private room within someone's home. For example, we decided to treat ourselves in Sibenik, Croatia, due to being there for a longer length of time, so we treated this as more of a holiday home. We spent £25 per night, for an entire place, with a lovely view of the ocean, which was exceptionally beautiful when watching the sunset. See the image below to see this for yourself.

We also advise, when you do go with any accommodation, we advise to stay just outside the centre of the city, so you are just outside enough to not be in the catchment areas of all the main attractions which reduces the cost of a place by a considerable amount. Believe me, the cost of getting into the centre is no where near the cost of the price you will pay staying within the central area, in any country. Follow to my next post on public transport tips.
