Today, we arrived in Pisa, went straight our apartment and met with our hosts, the walk was quite long from the train station and the heat was nearly unbearable so we were so glad to make it to our apartment. The host wasn't there so we met with a flatmate who shown us our room and only our room, we were surprised not to be shown the kitchen or bathroom, until we asked! So we just headed straight out into the town to find the leaning tower.
We were very surprised that the surrounding area to the tower itself was nothing but a dump, it was very dirty and almost looked run down. The only thing that made it look slightly more built up was the supermarket and the McDonalds. However once we entered the grounds of the leaning tower, our opinions soon changed, there was a barrier around the grass to help preserve it's untouched look, there were even security guards preventing people climbing over.
The building itself was everything we imagined it to be, it was bizarre to look at, we just stood studying for a while, trying to work out how it is actually still standing. The building wasn't originally meant to be on a lean, but the builders built it this way and it was too late once they had noticed, so they just carried on.
We took multiple photos, in amongst everyone posing, holding the tower up, pushing the tower over, leaning on the tower, it was great to watch all the poses!
After the posing, we sat on the grass that we were allowed to sit on, and just relaxed for a few hours, drinking our carton of wine that we brought from the supermarket, traditional Tipsy Traveller style fashion!
